Wave Hub Test Site
Wave Hub is one of the world’s largest and most technologically advanced sites for the testing and development of offshore renewable technology.
The site has consent to install and operate renewable energy technology with 4 cable connections producing up to 30 MW of energy, which is upgradeable to 48 MW. The site has one of the best wave resources in Europe.
GoBe act as a retained consultant on the Wave Hub project providing consultancy support where required. In 2015 GoBe provided support to undertake an environmental assessment to support the application to vary the S36 consent to increase Wave Hub’s maximum generating capacity from 20MW to 48MW. Key services provided by the GoBe team were:
- Produce a S36 Variation application with supporting information outline the proposed increase in the number of permissible devices at Wave Hub and implications in terms of the Environmental Impact Assessment conducted in support of the original application;
- GoBe provided technical support and advice to develop an appropriate worst case design scenario that would cover all future deployments.
